Word Boost!

Good afternoon Primary 1!

I hope you have had a chance to revisit our Word Boost story ‘The Lamb Who Came to Dinner’. Were you able to remember the four boost words from this story? They were…

delicioustrudge, howl and gobble.

Did you get them correct? Well done if you did! We read this story a long time ago so it was very well remembered if you managed this!

Below you will find different games and activities you can use to revise these boost words even more! Play as many as you would like! For many of these games you will need to make up cards with pictures that represent the different boost words.

Clue game
Give a clue to the identity of a BOOST that incorporates the initial sound and the meaning.
For example, I’m thinking of a BOOST word that starts with g and it means eat quickly (gobble).

Mime the Word
Child chooses one BOOST word and mimes the word while others guess.

Sorting
Sort BOOST word pictures into coloured containers (red for verbs, blue for nouns and yellow for adjectives).

Listen for BOOST words
Children make a rocket with their hands when they hear a BOOST words in any context.

Matching
Children match words and pictures and say why each word goes with the picture they have chosen.

Fishing
Children fish for a picture and make a sentence with the word. You can make a fishing rod using a garden cane, string and a small magnet. Attach paper clips to the pictures so they will be picked up by the magnet.

Choosing
Ask each child to choose one picture and make up sentence.
In pairs, one child chooses a picture and the other has to make up a sentence about it.

These are just some activities you can do with our boost words. Can you think of anymore? In class we play corners and hangman with them! Maybe you can also do these at home today!

Have a good afternoon. I hope you have a delicious lunch today!
