PRIMARY 5/4, Tuesday 19th May 2020

Good Morning boys and girls,

I hope you have had a great weekend and are ready for a new week of learning and fun!  I’ve put a video message on Teams for you this morning too.

Health and Wellbeing:

  • The Fischy Assembly is streamed live on a Monday at 11 o’clock so there was one streamed yesterday. If you’d like to, you could join in with this today.  https://youtu.be/DtqY3ULh9xM
  • It’s Mental Health Awareness Week:
  • This song ties in so well with the theme of KINDNESS – https://youtu.be/iGUABWgeA1Q
  • With your family members, make a list of little acts of kindness that you can do to brighten someone’s day at home, such as checking if they are OK, asking if there is anything you can do to help, offering to make a cup of tea, tidying up without being asked, helping with a chore around the house etc.  Can you come up with 20 to 30 ideas?  How many can you do in a day?  You could make a poster like this with your ideas:Literacy:This week we will focus on learning the most common words.   In Teams, go into Files then Class Materials then Fry’s words for spelling.  There are ten sets of Fry’s words (each set has one hundred words), start looking through from number one until you find the set you think will give you a challenge – that is the set you should start on. Use these words to do one of the challenges on the Spelling Activities grid.  Do the activity in your jotter or on paper please.

    Numeracy:

    Number Talks

Remember, Number Talks are about how you solve a task, mentally.  For this activity, don’t use anything to help you, just use your brain.  Once you have an answer, write down the way you worked it out, take a picture if you can and send it back to us so that we can see how you solved it.

You can choose which one you would like to do.  This one –  or this one –

Listening and Talking/Interdisciplinary Learning

  • On BBC iPlayer you can watch ‘One Night in the Museum’, where some children around your age visit the National Museum of Scotland at night. It’s really interesting:

As always, these are all suggested activities and you can choose what you would like to do.  Try and find some time to read during the day too.  Hopefully you’ll be able to get outside for some fresh air and exercise as well.

Have a good day,

Mrs Ramsay
