Good Morning - Wednesday 27th May

Good morning everyone – I hope you enjoyed the Sports Day activities yesterday, if you didn’t get a chance to do them remember you have until Friday to submit your results!

Literacy  – Reading today as usual – have you had a chance to read quietly this week? Take the opportunity to sit somewhere quiet and enjoy a good book. It doesn’t have to be a new book, rereading an old book can be so much fun too.

Let’s do some analysing today – book covers are so important to an author; they make the book stand out to readers and give clues of the adventure that is inside the cover. Take a look at the book covers in the powerpoint ananalyse them – choose 2 or 3 – make some notes and ask yourself the following questions:

  • What do you think this book is about?
  • Does it appeal to you? Why/why not?
  • What picture clues link to the title?
  • Does it make you want to read the book?
  • What style is the cover? (photo/cartoon/sketch/realistic drawing)
  • Is the title/author clearly written?
  • What colours have been used? Do they influence the tone of the cover? (bright – fun, exciting, dark – moody, spooky)
  • What would you change if you redesigned it?

Alternatively you can stay with the theme of sports and take a look at the Mo Farah comprehension activity – choose your level – mild, hot & spicy
