P7/6 Monday 15th June - Eco Day

Good morning everyone and welcome back Primary 7. I thought we would do things a bit differently this week and have a different theme each day.

Last Monday was World Oceans Day. Sorry I’m a bit late but I thought it would be good to complete a few Eco activities to remind ourselves how important it is to look after our planet. One of the biggest problems facing our beautiful oceans today is plastic pollution.

Watch this short film clip narrated by the ocean. This is a good introduction to our Eco Day.

Activity one

Can you list the names of all the oceans in the world? Which ocean is the largest?

Activity 2

Click on the link below to watch a video all about plastic. The plastic problem has been in the news quite a bit over the last few years. Can you think of any changes that have been made to help solve the problem?

Activity 3

How does this image make you feel? Write a short paragraph about the image. If you are feeling ambitious you could even brainstorm some ambitious vocabulary and try to write a short poem.

Activity 4

Listen to this short clip exploring the problems facing our oceans today.

Activity 5

How long does a plastic bottle last?

Different kinds of plastic degrade at different times, but it can even take hundreds of years for some items, perhaps longer. According to a report by The Guardian, in the UK we use 38.5m plastic bottles every day and only just over half of these are recycled.

How many plastic bottles are not recycled every year?

Main Event

Please create a poster to help people understand how important our oceans are or to encourage people to use less plastic and save our oceans. I have emailed everyone some resources to help.

*I have also emailed everyone an Oceans and Plastics quiz to complete our Eco Day.

Have a great day everyone and please get in touch to share your learning.
