Summer Safety - Primary 7

Good Morning Primary 7 – Today we will focus on Summer Safety – it is so important as lockdown is eased and we slowly get back to “normal” that we remember to keep ourselves safe during the Summer holidays.

Activity 1 :  Sun safety – research sunscreen – how does sunscreen actually work – what do the factors mean –  what is the difference between sunscreen and sunblock – does the brand you buy make a difference – does it matter when you live in Scotland or is just for really hot countries? Write an information report with the key information to share in an interesting way.

Activity 2: Design a poster to get sun safety message across to children using the research information from activity 1

Activity 3: Water safety is another important message for summertime – people are far more likely to be at the beach or swimming in a river when the weather gets hot. Part of the visit to the Risk Factory covers safety in the water and who to call when there is a problem. Use the following links to learn all about this.

Activity 4: Road safety – as the roads get busier lots of people seem to have forgotten how to keep themselves safe on the roads – remember the postcards we made for our buddies? Could you design a set of instructions to keep children safe on Scotland’s roads this summer?

Activity 5Finally so many people have rediscovered a love of cycling in lockdown – quieter roads, a safer mode of transport, exercise…. the list goes on about the benefits of cycling but remember it also has to be safe. Use the following links to remind yourself about the benefits of cycling and also the rules and safety tips – could you design a safety poster or advert?
