Our Sound Ou!

Good afternoon Primary 1!

I hope you get a chance to log back into your Learning Journals this afternoon to look at the phonics and spelling videos for this week’s sound. This week we are learning the ‘ou’ sound. Below are some additional ‘ou’ activities you might want to do to get in some extra practise!

ou is in the middle of the word cloud. Can you look at the clouds in the sky and see if they look like anything? What about these clouds below? What can you see?

If you see any clouds in the sky that remind you of something, take a picture and post it on your Learning Journals and let us know what you thought it looked like!

ou is in the middle of the word count. Can you count to 100 with Jack Hartmann?

ou is in the middle of the word hour. Can you remember how we can tell o’clock times? The big hand will be pointing at the 12 and the little hand will be pointing to the number of the hour. Have a go at practising o’clock times on this game:

Can you manage to get 15/15?

A lovely story to practise the ou sound is The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse. Eagle-eyed viewers might spot another way we can make the ou sound in the title! Have a listen to the story and see if you can spot the ou sound in the words as you watch. Tell a grown-up your favourite part of the story afterwards.

ou is in the middle of the word South. Can you practise directions at home? Ask a grown-up or someone at home to direct the way you walk using the words North, South, East and West. Can you travel the right way? Creating your own paper compass might  help you to begin with!

Remember today is World Oceans Day and it is very important that we care for our oceans. We have suggested lots of activities that you can do to celebrate World Oceans Day on your Learning Journals today so please make sure to take some time to explore https://worldoceanday.school/  today.

Have fun with our new sound ou!
