Primary 3

Good morning Primary3!

This morning we have a selection of cloze procedures for you to complete. You have the choice of mild, spicy or hot!

Literacy – cloze procedure

Word Boost Word Revision: Can you define these words – are they a noun, verb or adjective?

swoop, mumble, defend, curious and peculiar.

Challenge: Create a text which includes all words – underline them so you can see them clearly. Make sure it makes sense AND has punctuation.

Remember daily reading is so important! Today we would like you to focus on fluency: don’t read like a robot!

Numeracy

The weather forecast for tonight predicts rainfall. This is perfect for an experiment to measure volume. Can you follow the instructions below and share your findings with us tomorrow!

Volume is the amount of space that a substance or object occupies within a container.

Measuring rainfall:

Place several marbles or pebbles into a container (plastic bottles are perfect)and add water until it is about one inch deep. Draw a line on the container to show the water level.

Put the rain gauge outside on a level surface, away from any overhanging leaves or trees. Leave the gauge outside all night.

Check in the morning and record by drawing date on bottle. You could continue this experiment for a whole week! Measure the volume tomorrow and at the end of the week using a measuring jug.

Did you know, these skills are used in the real world:

A rain gauge is an instrument used by meteorologists and hydrologists to gather and measure the amount of liquid precipitation over an area in a chosen period of time.

Have a great day.
