Good Morning Primary 2!

Good Morning and Welcome to Thursday morning!

Literacy

Read or listen to the story ‘A Hole at the Bottom of the Sea’. You can find it on the book trust website.

https://www.booktrust.org.uk/books-and-reading/have-some-fun/storybooks-and-games/A-hole-in-the-bottom-of-the-sea/

Now have a go at answering these questions…Write your answers down if you can. Try to write 2 answers in sentences.

What was the first animal spotted in the hole in the bottom of the sea?

Which creature hid from the eel and the shark?

Which creature has claws that grab at the squid and the eel and the shark?

What does the sun feed?

You can look up and listen to the song of the story ‘There’s a Hole at the Bottom of the Sea’ on youtube…

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R1Qn2bcZRTo

Sing along and try to keep up, it’s quite fast!

NEXT You could also try reading some NON-FICTION…Read the story Save the Whale. It can be found in Oxford Owls online age 5-6. https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/

Read the story and answer the questions at the end of the story (you don’t need to use the part in italics!)

Do you think it is important that we help animals like the Whale and other sea creatures?

Can you think of any ways that we do our bit to help? Think about the pollution that ends up in the world’s oceans?

Maths

Continuing to think about measure, today we are going to measure using our feet. First find big 5 objects in the house, it could be a rug, chair, bed or table – you don’t need to move them if they are large objects!

Write them in a list below each other. Now measure the object using your feet as a measure. Place your feet heel to toe all the way along the objects. Then count and record how many of your feet long it is. For example.

Object                                  Number of my feet

Kitchen Chair                                 2

Ask someone else at home to measure one of your objects with their feet – Do they get the same answer as you? Why do you think they do or don’t get the same answer as you?

Just a thought…Do you know your own shoe size?  Why are our shoe sizes given with different numbers?  (UK 1, Euro 33?)

Have a lovely morning!
