Thinking Thursday - 18th June

Good morning Primary 7 – I hope you enjoyed your wellbeing Wednesday and feel you have had the opportunity to focus on you. Today we are looking at different things that make you think! As always you are free to select any of the activities that you are interested in and send me the results!

Activity 1:   We use our senses to communicate, so how do children communicate if they have problems with their hearing? This fun game uses British Sign Language (BSL) to ‘code-break’ number puzzles. You  will learn BSL numbers 1–10 and use them to solve these math problems and invent some of your own.

Use the sign language chart to code-break the sum and write the answer in the box provided. One point for each correct number you code-break and 2 points for each correct answer. So each sum could win a maximum of four points. Once you have worked these out could you create your own number problems for someone at home?

Week 11 – BSL – Worksheet-Counting-on-your-fingers

Activity 2: Thinking time in Literacy and Numeracy is really important – your brain needs time to think about its reaction to what it sees and hears before developing a response. Here are a series of questions designed to make you think – what is your thinking process? Do you draw your response, work it out mentally, talk about it, debate it, put multiple points of view forward? Use your thinking skills to analyse these questions and enjoy debating the answers with your family – not everyone will have the same opinion I can guarantee!

Week 11 – Literacy & Numeracy Thinking Questions

Activity 3:  This link will take you to an assembly at 10am today led by the Duchess of Cambridge – you can still watch it on catchup if you follow this link rather than watching live – the theme is Kindness – so it fits in well with our school values at KPS. Both Prince William and Kate have been making a real effort to help people talk about their feelings and the value of supporting each other and being kind – it’ll make you think!        https://youtu.be/AI8ox2bX_rQ

Activity 4:  what happens inside a volcano when it erupts? Think about it – watch this clip and research volcanoes – are they all the same?

Activity 5: Technology has been such an important part of our learning over the last term – what would we do without it? Today I want to choose an area of  ICT that you enjoy – could you make a movie?

  • First think of the programme you will use – are you going to take photographs and put them together, will you use animation, or are you going to video the clips and put them together – it will all depend on your device and the apps you have – THINK carefully about how you can manage this –  maybe you already have an app or programme on your computer/ipad/phone/tablet/ipad that you can use
  • plan out a story – organise different scenes, characters, props, scenery – who will feature in your movie – drawn character, toys, real people?
  • What story will you tell? How many scenes do you need – what is the problem in your story and how is it solved?
  • Special effects – will you use filters, sound effects, music to improve your movie?

When you have finished have a movie premiere and share your project with me either on Teams or by email – have a great day Primary 7!
