Good Morning - Monday 22nd June

Good morning everyone – I hope you all had a good weekend and are ready for your last week of Primary School! In a similar way to last week we will be focusing on different activities rather than timetables – as always do what you can!

Eco Day

A couple of weeks ago it was World Oceans Day,  I thought it would be good to complete a few Eco activities to remind ourselves how important it is to look after our planet. One of the biggest problems facing our beautiful oceans today is plastic pollution.

Watch this short film clip narrated by the ocean. This is a good introduction to our Eco Day.

Activity 1: Can you list the names of all the Oceans in the world? Which ocean is the largest? Write your top 10 ocean facts.

Activity 2 :  Click on the link below to watch a video all about plastic. The plastic problem has been in the news quite a bit over the last few years. Can you think of any changes that have been made to help solve the problem?

Activity 4Listen to this short clip exploring the problems facing our oceans today. Make notes of the key information and share what you have learned with someone at home.

Activity 5How long does a plastic bottle last?

Different kinds of plastic degrade at different times, but it can even take hundreds of years for some items, perhaps longer. According to a report by The Guardian, in the UK we use 38.5m plastic bottles every day and only just over half of these are recycledHow many plastic bottles are not recycled every year?  Collect data on plastic bottles and create a graph to demonstrate your findings – here are some useful websites for information.

Activity 7 :Please create a poster to help people understand how important our oceans are or to encourage people to use less plastic and save our oceans. Use all the information you have gathered during the other activities.

Activity 8: Here is a link to an Oceans and Plastics quiz to complete our Eco Day how much do you know? How much have you learned today?
